Renate in SierraLeone

Klik on picture to enlarge, it's worth it!
Twinsister Renate visited her sister in Sierra Leone. A foto-impression of her trip shows us a tiny glimps of her, visiting several hospitals, the deliverywards, midwifery-schools, and meeting a lot of friendly people and beautifull baby's. I thank Renate for allowing me to use her foto's. I can't wait to know the story's behind each picture.
Looking at all this, it gives me power to continue to tell everyone again and again about our TwinSisterProject in Sierra Leone!

Afternoon HomeBirth

All the best wishes for 2011, the year that I am gonna meet my twinsister Hannah.
I thank Patricia, for letting me use this beautiful foto, taken a few minutes after her son Tim was born at home.
I thank her husband for making it. I look happy :), but who wouldn't be, at that very moment?

My sister Hannah

May all the Children

May all the children who are born on this planet
Have a mother who's healthy
And a father who's kind
May the place of their birth be a warm and a safe one
May they posess their own body
Their soul and their mind

Tell me the story of others
Let me listen to thoughts of women unknown
Make me understand the difference
Between comfort and care
Or being on your own

In the dark of the night through the silence
There's the cry of a child
The sound goes straight to your heart
Is it a scream of misery
Or the announcement of a new start
The cry of a brand new start

May all the children who are born on this planet
Have a mother who's healthy
And a father who's kind
May the place of their birth be a warm and a safe one
May they posess their own body
Their soul and their mind

It's time to unveil the knowledge
That makes the difference between life and death
It's time to share the knowledge
That makes the difference between life and death
In the dark of the night etc...

Donaties Gifts

Past week our student Marjolein finished her internship at Zeewolde. She helped delivering nine baby's and it was a pleasure tutoring her, she is a very good midwife-student. And surely is gonna be a exellent midwife.
As farewell-gift she had something special for us. A real DutchBluePiggy and it wasn't empty! For our TwinningProject she asked all her friends to sponsor her. She and her 1+ year old sun Jesse went to the swimmingpool, and they swam nine whole rounds. One round for every month of a pregnancy. Her Friends payed them for every round... So the piggy was really full!
The money will be donated to the TwinningProject Midwifes4Mothers.

PInkendag

Foto's E.Wallenburg met dank

Foto F. Wigbers

Wilke’s zwangerschap is goed verlopen.

TRANSLATION
A daughter, Lise
In the early morning of Tuesday, July 20, midwife Wilke had her own homebirth of her first child. A daughter, Lise. She was assisted by her partner, Marc, the two colleagues, Marianne ans Rolande, and nurse Renate.
"It was a tough delivery," says Wilke, "Lise had a birth weight of nearly eight pound, so bringing her into the world, pfhoe, that was a proper job. "
If we visit Wilke one day after the birth, she sits happy smiling with her daughter on the arm. "It is sometimes a bit unreal that she really belongs to us that she is born at home and that I now get great care by my nurse."
Wilke's pregnancy went well. She had fortunately not too many pregnancy ailments and there grew a beautiful belly. She worked well untill the last month, and all Zeewoldense pregnant women and have recently given birth wanted to know how she did... That is evident in the many congratulations continue arriving on the website and midwives-Hyve, especially since there a few nice pictures of mother and daughter to admire.
Giving birth at home
Wilke says that she really liked to give birth at home. "As a midwife I know a little how that goes, but now that I was experiencing the other side, really special."
Official naming at the CityHall was immediately done the same morning. When the officer asked wich midwife was present at the birth, the young father could honestly say that all three Zeewoldense midwives were there. Colleagues Marianne and Rolande both nod in response to the question whether it was alsoo special for them. "We are so proud of our Wilke, we float along on this nice pink cloud."
Lise is so far an exemplary infant, bulging cheeks, a beautiful bunch of dark hairs. She cries only occasionally, drinks and sleep in its cradle. Wilke is a happy mother 'Renate nurse treats us like princesses, we have a good life here. "
Sierra Leone
So well cared for this week, Wilke asks whether there is a possibility the "Twin Sister Project" can be named. With all the luck here in Zeewolde she wants to focus on the women of Sierra Leone, where the care for mother and child is not so obvious. The three midwives in the practice at the Flevo square are associated with a midwife in Freetown, Sierra Leone. In practice there is, a piggy bank in which they are ready to raise money for their "sister" Hannah, an excellent initiative.
Then let Lise makes herselve heard, time for the next feeding, and we close with a wonderful slogan: "It suits well in Zeewolde!
